Cookies for 4th round WIG goal
Please get me a count by the end of the day today about how many cookies each grade level needs for the 4th round of STAR testing.  Students who should get this reward are those who are at or above grade level (1.6, 2.6 etc) or those who have made .9 years growth since August.  If you have questions about who that is - see me.  We plan on doing this on Tuesday afternoon. Cookies will be ready in the lunchroom for pickup.

There is a lot to celebrate - overall our average is up slightly from both December and our 4th round of STAR testing last year.  We are doing some things right and moving in the right direction.  I know it is frustrating for us not to see more growth in every grade level - but don't give up.  Keep working and brainstorming about how we can improve our students' grade level reading.  We know that as students improve their reading skills, they will improve in every area.

Leadership Time Next Week
Several teachers have mentioned that they are hearing students talk about the momo challenge.  If you are not familiar with what this is - please read this article.
Next week during leadership time one day, please address this with your students.  I wouldn't get wrapped up in the specifics of what they challenge is.  Just remind students about appropriate technology use and what to do if they see something alarming on a video or game (stop watching it immediately and report to a parent or teacher.) I also would address that this is not a topic that we talk about at school with other students - if they have worries or concerns, please talk to a teacher about those.  Let me know if you have questions.

Students were prepared for our conferences back last month before the cold weather hit.  Please refresh your students so they will be prepared for next Thursday night.  Also remember to send out reminds and encourage students and parents both to come to our event.

Live Scoring
Just a reminder -if any 3rd, 4th or 5th grade teacher would like to schedule live scoring before KPREP testing - get it on the calendar soon.  The days are filling up quickly.

Other Reminders
-Please turn in your SLED documents for this week as well as three students' SLED work from EACH day per grade level.
-Please remember to sign in each morning in Sonya's office.
-House meeting will be on the morning of March 13th  - slides will be uploaded soon with the agenda for that meeting.
-Four weeks until Spring Break - hang in there!
-No Leader of the Week for this week or Captains Crew.  Going to change up Captain's Crew for the next few weeks.  Also on Monday morning - I am going to keep 3rd-5th grade in the gym after assembly to discuss KPREP testing and the Wilderness reward.

Next Week at a Glance...
Monday  - 3rd nine weeks grade should be posted today.  Please double check and make sure your grades are posted and in a good shape.

Friday Focus - February 22, 2019

54!  Can you believe it?  Fifty-four more days left in this school year!  Only 44 more days until the KPREP!  Time is flying by.  Keep pushing forward.  We have accomplished so much this far but don't stop now.  We can still make so much progress in the next 11 weeks.

Please work diligently to finish up any STAR tests that have not been done this week or have any students retest that may need to.  We will be discussing our 4th round of STAR tests at PLC's next week.  Also - please add this data to the data tracker.

SUPERVISION FOR 21ST CENTURY/PANTHER LAB STUDENTS
One teacher from each grade level needs to stay with 21st century/Panther Lab students in the cafeteria hallway until the cafeteria is open and accepting students in for snack.  We had a fight in the back hallway this week.  This is especially important now since we have so many students staying each afternoon.  Thanks in advance for your help with this!

Friday Focus - February 15th, 2019

I hope all of you had a wonderful Valentine's Day. It is one of those holidays that absolutely wears school personnel out but our students enjoy it so much.  It's just another great opportunity for me to tell all of you how much I appreciate all the LOVE you show to our students everyday.  You are making an impact with your smiles, kind words and the genuine care that you put in to how you do your job.  Thank you!

Cell Phone Usage
Please remember to keep your cell phone usage at a minimum when you have students.  I realize that many of you use it while you are teaching to set timers, play music, etc.  Of course, that is fine.
Our students and their learning should be the priority when they are in the classroom.  Please don't let your phone be a distraction from that.
Also - the district is asking that ALL parent communication be through remind rather than through personal texts.  The paid version of Remind that the district has purchased keeps a record of all correspondence.  This protects you by keeping a record of what is being said.  We can never be too careful!

Chromecart SlideShow - please remember to update

*Live Scoring - any 3rd, 4th or 5th grade teacher that would like to do another round of live scoring - send us a date!

Wednesday - 3:00 Leadership Team meeting
Thursday
Friday - House Meeting - breakfast meeting - focus on Integrity - slides will be shared soon

Have a wonderful week!

ROUND 2 MAP

Round 2 MAP results are in and there is much to be celebrated.  We will talk next week at PLC's in-depth about the data but I wanted to share with you now.  Please spend some time looking at the following data and be ready to discuss next week.

To see comparative data from Round 1 to Round 2 - click here.

I am always interested to see how we are performing compared to the previous year.

MATH PD 2018 VS CURRENT YEAR

READING PD 2018 VS CURRENT YEAR

WIG CELEBRATIONS

We will be rewarding students who are proficient or distinguished in each area as well as students who met their RIT goal from the fall testing.  Students who meet one of these two criteria in MATH will receive a soft drink.  Students who meet one of these two criteria in READING will receive a chocolate chip cookie.  We plan on having this celebration Tuesday, February 19th.  I will need the number of students per grade level next week during PLC's.  We can discuss if you have questions about who qualifies.

PANTHER LABS
We plan on beginning Panther Labs the week of February 19th for select groups of 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. If you would like to teach at a Panther Lab - please let me know ASAP.  Below is a link for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade teachers to add students they would like to be invited to these labs.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFO
-We need to move the date of our Student-led conferences/FLN once again due to the board meeting going to be held at CCES on 2/28.  Our next date is March 7th from 4-6.
-We are going to ask that EACH staff person sign in each morning in Ms. Sonya's office when you arrive.  This is a habit we have gotten out of but it is important.  We are having some lapse in communication when people are absent and not knowing many times until much later in the day.  Sonya will be checking the sign-in sheet when she arrives each morning and we will be looking for you if you have not signed in.
-Also, please remember to email or text Whitney, Sonya and myself when you are going to be absent.  It is important that all three of us receive this in writing so we don't miss anything.
-Absence forms, expense reimbursement forms, field trip requests and transportation request forms are now all online from the district webpage under Employee Information.  This is the method you should use for all of the above requests instead of hard copies.  Please let me know if you have questions.

Next Week at a Glance...
Monday - 4:00 SBDM meeting
Tuesday
Wednesday - 3:00 Literacy Team meeting
Thursday - Valentine's Day - parties need to be held after 1 pm.  Reminder that we no longer invite parents to parties.
Friday - 1:30 Panther Pals

Have a great week!
