Weekly Update - March 15, 2021

As some of the Covid restrictions lift around the state, we will start to see some changes at school.  The district office gave us the green light to allow students to return to the cafeteria to eat (with some restrictions) and I believe the middle school is returning today.   At CCES - it would cause a major change to our schedule to move students back to the cafeteria for lunch.  I didn't want to do that without getting feedback from all of you.  Please let me know if we should continue the year like we are or if you think we should transition back to the cafeteria.

In the meanwhile, please allow students to eat outside when they can.

We are also going to try to let grade levels have recess TOGETHER on Fridays.  I think this is something that students have missed and will be something for them to look forward to.  However, please remind students of playground expectations and that a large number of strikes and discipline issues normally come from the playground.  If they don't follow the playground expectations, we will take away those Friday's of playing as a grade level.

_______________________________________________________

*Application for Summer School Teachers is available here. Those applications are due this Friday.

Please remember to send out sign-up forms for parents to select a time for Parent Teacher conferences for the 29th and 30th. Remember this is for in-person students only. We will have a separate time for our VIP students.

*Bring STAR results to the grade level meetings this week.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK - ONLY 8 1/2 LEFT IN THE YEAR!

Friday, March 5, 2021

Weekly Update - March 5, 2021

After discussion with some teachers - we feel like it may be best to do conferences for our in-person students ONLY on March 29th and 30th.  We will wait until after spring break to start scheduling our VIP students.  Also - if you need to schedule some conferences before 4:00 on those days to get everyone in - that is fine.

Congratulations to Mrs. Nancy Flowers and Mrs. Hannah Hopper.

Mrs. Nancy will receive the Campbellsville University Excellence in Teaching award and Ms.  Hannah has been nominated for the WKU Distinguished Educator award for Preschool/Elementary.

Special class for next week will be PE, Leadership and SEL/Bullying.

NO SCHOOL NEXT THURSDAY AND FRIDAY

Friday, February 26, 2021

Weekly Update - February 24th, 2021

The year is flying by and it is once again time for STAR testing.  Please complete the fourth round of STAR testing sometime the first couple of weeks of March.  Remember to discuss with students their goal for this upcoming assessment.

Also - we will soon be taking our last round of MAP testing.  We will open up the window the week before spring break.  As a grade level - decide if you want to do the last round the week before or the week after.

We also have scheduled Parent Teacher conferences for March 29th and 30th.  We will do two evenings  - 4 to 6 each evening.  We are going to do this like we did in the fall - 20 minute sessions that allows you the opportunity to meet with parents alone.  Please send out a form or way for parents to sign up for their time.  This will be a great opportunity to discuss progress for the year.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also next week is our Panther Store for January and February.  Please remember to fill out the Class Party form and submit by tomorrow afternoon.   Here is the schedule for Panther Store on Tuesday in the library - please fill in a time for your homeroom to visit.

Ms. Sue Elise sent an email about Jason Lindsey, the Science Guy, doing a Google Meet with all grade levels next Tuesday, March 2nd at 1 pm.   You will access this through the CCES 2020-2021 Google Classroom - just like morning meeting.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also - please be very cautious to view and listen to all videos that you are using in class - whether in-person or VIP.  This includes videos from trusted sources like BrainPop, Flocabulary, etc.  This week we had an issue with a BrainPop video sharing content that we are not comfortable with for our students.  We are in a day and time that there are issues that can be very controversial to discuss with students and we need to be cautious.  Let me know if you have questions.

Have a great weekend!

Weekly Update - February 4, 2021

Mrs. Parson sent this link in email this week.  If you have not already checked it out - please do so.  This is a really good indication of what we are preparing students for as far as assessment goes.

After looking at survey results, we have decided that we are going to do two more Panther Stores during the remainder of the year.  We will do one on March 2nd for January and February.  Please continue doing behavior calendars and some system of awarding Panther Bucks.  We will give more details about the Panther Store toward the end of the month.

Jason Lindsey will be conducting a live science show on February 18th for all CCES students @ 1:00.   It will be a 30 minute live science show with hands-on activity. The students will receive an activity kit to be completed at that time with Jason Lindsey. Also, the students will receive a 2nd kit for family science engagement activity where the students take it home to complete with parents.  A 15 minute pre recorded video will be provided for families to watch that evening or over the weekend.   Students that complete the family engagement activity (post a photo) will have their name entered into a drawing.   We will draw the following Monday, February  22nd.  The family portion will need to be through Google Classroom.

Next Week at a Glance...

Arts Inclusion Grant

CCES has been awarded an Arts Inclusion grant from the Kentucky Arts Council.  This will provide materials for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders to complete an art project working with local artist - Ms. Pat Ritter.  This project will take place the week of Feb 8th thru February 11th (we are skipping February 12th) and then finish up with the 5th day on Tuesday, February 16th.  She will instruct and lead the project and teachers will just need to be ready to facilitate.

-This will be the special class content for 3rd - 5th grade for that week so there will not need to be any additional special class content planned for those days.

-All materials that are needed for the project will be delivered to your class beforehand.

There are some schedule changes for these grade levels.  I have talked individually with each grade level about these changes.

Weekly Update - January 13, 2021

FUN FRIDAY FRIENDSGIVING

Since we didn't get to celebrate Thanksgiving at school this year and since we are having turkey and dressing on Friday for lunch, we decided to make it a "thing" and do a little Fun Friday Friendsgiving.  We will have pajama day on Friday for students and staff so we can eat until we are stuffed at lunch.  We will also have a special video on Friday morning at morning meeting to share with everyone.  Please share info about pajama day with your parents through remind.

PLC's are going to meet next week to discuss MAP, Star and Core data.  Please bring all pertinent data to the meeting so we can discuss student progress and plans for the rest of the year.

We will meet in the library.  We will have a working lunch.  It may take most of your planning that day so I wanted  you to be prepared for that.

Tuesday 1/19 - 3rd grade 1100-1230

Wednesday 1/20 - 1st grade 1000-1130

                              4th grade 1130-100

Thursday 1/21 - Kindergarten 1030-1200

                          5th grade 1200-130

Friday 1/22 - 2nd grade  1045-1215

Our leadership team at CCES has always been open to any staff who wanted to join and we've always had several people to participate.  To be safe, we need to have a smaller group.  We are going to be forming the group in the next week or so.  If you want to be a part of the leadership team - please let me know.  We are thinking 12 people or less so we can social distance when we meet.  We normally meet once per month and hopefully will have our first meeting sometime in January.

Weekly Update - January 6, 2021

As we begin the next nine weeks, it is a good time to do some mid-point assessments to see student progress.  I think this is more important than ever that we do these.
*STAR Assessment - many of you have already done this again - but if you have not - please do in the next week.
*MAP window - will open on Monday.  Our goal is to have everyone tested by Friday, January 15th.  If you do not think you can do that for your grade level - please let me know.  We would like to schedule RTI meetings for the following week and use that data from those assessments.

I'd like for you to select one student as your Leader of the Month for November/December and add it to the morning announcement slide by Friday afternoon.  Please select your Leader of the Month this time based on their participation/effort/work ethic during our time of virtual instruction.

It is even more important than ever that students get time outside during recess.  If it is possible at all - I would like for all classes to do this (or gym).  If it is too wet to get in the yard or on the playground - think about talking a walk outside or playing a game on the sidewalks.  Please communicate with parents through remind that it is important that they send a jacket, gloves, and hood/hat with their child to school each day.  If you have a student who doesn't have these items - please let us know.

I am so glad to be back at school and we have had a wonderful week!  Thank you all for all you do!
