Friday Focus - October 26, 2018

I hope you had the chance to look over the STAR scores that I posted earlier in the week.  They are very encouraging!

EllRay Jakes has been so much fun and I think everyone involved has been pleased.  We are really thinking about doing another book again in the spring - one that we could get for $1 through the Scholastic monthly orders.  If you see one that you think would be good - let me know.  Please watch those dollar deals from Scholastic!

Next week we will do our 1st nine weeks awards during morning assembly.  Here is the schedule:

Thursday 11/1 - 2nd/3rd grade Perfect Attendance

2nd Round STAR Scores

Woohoo! Way to go CCES!

So proud of these scores and the hard work both teachers and students are doing to increase reading level.  Students are working hard to meet Lexia goals each week and teachers are focusing on vocabulary!  It is all making a difference.  Keep up the good work.

Our WIG celebration (for those students on grade level {1.2, 2.2, etc} or those who made 0.3 growth since the August test) will be treated with a fresh chocolate chip cookie and free time on Wednesday.  One teacher from each grade level can pick up the cookies from the cafeteria after 12 on Wednesday.

Friday Focus - October 19, 2018

I have been so pleased with how well our One School One Book project has started off.  Keep up the good work this week!

This week at our Student Lighthouse Team meeting, I had students share some of their favorite things about CCES and I wanted to share those responses with you. So here is what makes the top of the list with students currently:
-One School One Book and all the activities that go with it (trivia and dress-up days were mentioned several times)
-Pods/Houses
-Panther Time
-Beta
-Spinning the wheel at morning assembly

They also had to tell me things that needed to improve here at CCES:
-bullying occasionally but students treating each other with respect seems to be a problem
-too much trash on the playground
-bathrooms not being taken care of by students

So - here are some ideas of ways we can improve.
1.  Please use leadership time to continually talk about treating others with respect and standing up to bullying.
2.  Have each grade level take a couple of minutes to clean up the playground each day before they leave.  If the trashcans need changing out there - please let the office now and we will get them changed.
3. We will look into starting the Bathroom Challenge again soon.

-----------UPCOMING HOUSE EVENTS----------
-Our next House/Pod meeting will be on Halloween day.  We will meet at our regular morning locations for breakfast and our activities will focus on learning all about LOYALTY.  We will have those activities ready this week and share them with you.  If you want to bring Halloween treats for your pod - that is fine too.

-For Christmas - each house is going to have a House Tree to decorate.  We need some trees (at least 6 ft tall ) and Christmas decorations if you have any you would like to donate.  Please just let me know if you have any of those things.

*There will not be 21st Century classes this week.  Please make sure your students know what their afternoon plans are.
**If you have not finished administering the 2nd round of STAR testing, please do so at the beginning of this week.  We are planning on having our WIG celebration (fresh baked chocolate chip cookies and free time) on Wednesday if everyone is finished.

Next Week at a Glance...
Monday - Farm to School Lunch in library at 12 - some members of the Student Lighthouse Team will be called at 11:30 to help with this event.

Friday Focus - October 5, 2018

I hope all of you had a great Fall Break and are ready to start this next session.  We have an exciting nine weeks coming up with our first ever One School, One Book.  This will begin on October 15th and run for two weeks.  We will have special Spirit Days the entire two weeks.  Please share this info with parents.

Each grade level decided on the reading plan for their grade level.  We want every grade level to have some amount of reading at home each night.  The goal of One School, One Book is to increase family engagement.

We will also be doing trivia each morning in the gym so be prepared - you could be called on by a student to help or to answer a question of your very own!  We will be discussing more next week at PLC's.

Please remember to add your Student Leader of the Week to the Monday morning slide.

Also - turn all house points in to Kelli. Remember to add 20 points for each student who was green all month on their behavior calendar.
